whurley is the Chair of the Quantum Standards Working Group at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the founder of the Quantum Computing Exchange, and the author of He is leading the development of the first quantum commuting standards in existence PAR7130 “Standard for Quantum Computing Definitions” and PAR 7131 “Standard for Quantum Computing Performance Metrics for Performance Benchmarking”. His latest book Endless Impossibilities (2018) brings the realities of a quantum future into the present. In it, he explores the inevitability of quantum computing and its impacts, while delving into applications in big data, space travel, medical research, and more.

Prior to all of this whurley was managing director at Goldman Sachs. He came to Goldman Sachs through the acquisition of Honest Dollar; a fintech startup bringing honesty, transparency, and simplicity to the financial services industry. whurley’s career has spanned over 20 years working for some of the most innovative companies on the planet including Apple Computer, IBM, and Goldman Sachs.

He has received numerous awards and recognitions including being named, a 2018 Eisenhower Fellow, the 2012 International Genius Grant recipient, and an IBM Master Inventor. He is a published author and frequent public speaker who is regularly featured in the media. His extracurricular efforts focus on diversity. His latest diversity effort is a partnership with the United Nations ITU and UN Women; ‘EQUALS’: The Global Partnership for Gender Equality in the Digital Age.
